Petpeotalk and the Korea Racing Authority detect stress and signs of illness in real time through AI video analysis
Deployed at LetsRun Park and the Jeju National University equine hospital, and now in the stable of Knicks Go
Petpeotalk (CEO Ryunhwan Kwon), a video AI company specializing in companion animal behavior analysis, announced on February 23 that it has commercialized an equine AI video analytics healthcare technology developed through open innovation with the Korea Racing Authority (chairman Heejong Woo).
The technology builds on the animal behavior analytics Petpeotalk accumulated through Doggyboggy, its AI home camera service for pets. The system analyzes CCTV footage inside stables around the clock, detects unusual behavior associated with pain or stress in real time, and sends immediate remote alerts to handlers when something looks wrong.
The technology has drawn particular attention for its role in helping Knicks Go, one of the world's leading racehorses, settle in after arriving in Korea. Anticipating stress from the abrupt change of environment, Petpeotalk built AI models that precisely recognize specific behaviors such as pawing, lying down, and licking, so that even subtle signs can be caught and the horse kept in good condition.
The system is also installed at LetsRun Park Seoul and in the inpatient stables of the equine hospital at Jeju National University College of Veterinary Medicine, where it supports health management and helps prevent emergencies. By supplementing a monitoring regime that has relied on staff observation, it picks up unusual behavior and signs of illness at night that are easy to miss by eye, laying the technical groundwork for AI-based equine healthcare.
Petpeotalk plans to advance the technology further with the Korea Racing Authority. It is developing video-based real-time analysis of signs of foaling, aimed at preventing birthing accidents not only at racetracks but on general horse farms, contributing to breeding safety and productivity in the Korean horse industry. Petpeotalk and the Korea Racing Authority have also completed a joint patent filing on the technology.
