FDA Food Facility Registration secured for its own plant, with US market entry planned for December
Plant expansion doubles manufacturing capacity, completing a vertically integrated structure
LIMPID said on November 10 that its own manufacturing facility has completed US Food and Drug Administration Food Facility Registration (FFR), qualifying the company to export freeze-dried pet food produced in Korea directly to the United States.
FDA Food Facility Registration is a mandatory step for any overseas manufacturing facility exporting food to the US. Pet food is tightly regulated there, and registration requires that a facility's hygiene and quality management systems meet FDA standards.
Alongside the registration, LIMPID is expanding production. It has leased an additional plant near its existing facility and added production lines, with capacity set to double by the end of the year. The expanded facility will produce both the domestic TrustyFood brand and export products.
With very few facilities in Korea specializing in freeze-dried pet food, LIMPID's added capacity is expected to give it an important position in the market.
LIMPID has steadily strengthened its production infrastructure since acquiring a freeze-dried pet food plant in November of the previous year. Its own formula laboratory, a pet food clinical testing CRO with Kyungpook National University, and now FDA registration and expanded capacity complete a vertically integrated structure covering research, production, and export.
The US pet food market is the world's largest, exceeding KRW 60 trillion annually, and the premium alternative diet segment is growing quickly, making it a market of opportunity for Korean companies.
A LIMPID representative said, “FDA registration confirms our December entry into the US market. We will show what Korean pet food can do on the strength of a global-standard quality management system.”
The representative added, “In Korea we will expand the portfolio of the therapeutic diet brand Dr.Trusty and focus on delivering tailored nutrition solutions to owners through the Saladpet platform.”
